The Jellicle Cats are meeting for the Jellicle Ball. At the end of the ball, one will be chosen by their leader Old Deuteronomy (Ken Page) to ascend to the heaviside layer, where they will be reborn. All the cats introduce themselves, and make their cases for why they should be chose to have a new life. The Rum Tum Tugger (John Partrige) presents himself as one of those contrary cats, who when he is in only want to get out, and there's nothing he likes better than a terrible muddle. Another Cat is Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat (Geoffrey Garret) who travels with the night train. Gus the theatre cat (John Mills) is a venerable veteran of the stage, and Mungojerrie (Drew Varley) and Rumpleteazer (Jo Gibb) are the con men of the feline world. Not to mention the magical Mr. Mistoffelees. Grizabella used to be known as the glamour cat, but now she is sad and old, living with her memories. So who will be chosen?
